7 Verses on Homosexuality

**Note: The following verses are taken out of context. They are meant for reference only.

Leviticus 18:22
You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.

Leviticus 20:13
If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.

Genesis 19
Story of sodom & gomorrah

Deuteronomy 23:17
"None of the daughters of Israel shall be a cult prostitute, and none of the sons of Israel shall be a cult prostitute.

Romans 1:26-27
For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10
Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

1 Timothy 1:9-10
understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine,

These are meant for reference, but it would be interesting to know your thoughts. I don't have much experience with the Bible, but I personally have never been able to reconcile these passages with many other things I was tought, having been raised Catholic. To me, the revolutionary message about Christianity is love: a God that loves you, love your neighbor as yourself. I find it difficult to imagine that Jesus would care whether I love a man or a woman.

Hi Brian, thanks for the comment.

First, I think it's important to understand what Jesus means when he talks about love. He's not talking about romantic love. There's obvious verses where he denounces adultery and lust.

But what we do see is Jesus eating and interacting with marginalized people: prostitutes, tax collectors, lepers, etc. Jesus brought hope and healing to these people.

To the prostitute, he didn't condemn, but rather gave her forgiveness. But he also told her to sin no more.

I don't know if homosexuality is a sin. But I do believe that they should have the right to marry, regardless. Because I know that I would be angry if someone told me I couldn't marry the person I love.
